The Minister of Family and Equality of Opportunities, Violante Tomás, together with the mayor of Abarán, Jesús Molina, visited today one of the users who will benefit from the home help service in this municipality.
He also reported that the Community will allocate 781,000 euros to provide this service to 43 senior citizens of the municipality until December 2018.
With this amount, some 65,000 hours of personal and domestic care will be financed in the two years, which will be carried out at the homes of dependents, in order to facilitate greater personal autonomy and be able to fully exercise their rights.
The counselor explained that "attention to people in a situation of dependency and the promotion of their personal autonomy are one of the main challenges of social policy."
In addition, he recalled that "these people, because they are in a situation of special vulnerability, require support to develop the essential activities of daily life."
The Department of Family and Equal Opportunities wants to expand the Service of Home Help of the Unit to all municipalities and that is provided in the same conditions of quality.
The service is extended this year to seven new municipalities: Totana, Aguilas, Alhama de Murcia, San Pedro del Pinatar, Mazarrón, Murcia and Archena, which add to the existing Abarán, Alcantarrilla and Puerto Lumbreras.
In addition, work is under way to sign new agreements with the town councils of Ricote, San Javier, Villanueva del Río Segura and Lorca.
New places for the elderly
On the other hand, Violante Tomás noted that "the regional executive is making a major budget effort to expand the number of public places offered for senior citizens in the residences and day centers of the Region."
Thus, in 2015, the Ministry had 3,448 places to care for the elderly, between day centers and residences, and today the offer is 4,166, which means an increase of 679 places.
In this line, the Ministry subsidizes with 711,000 euros 74 places in residences and day centers for seniors of Abarán.
Specifically, the offer of places in the residence Nicolás Gómez Tornero for the municipality of Abarán and neighboring areas increased by 38 percent, when last year they added 10 places to the 26 that already had arranged the Institute Murciano de Acción Social ( IMAS) in the center, which has a grant of 408,000 euros.
For its part, the day center for seniors serves 38 people, through the concert with the IMAS for 303,240 euros.
The minister stressed the "excellent coordination" of the IMAS with the municipal social services of Abarán, "which facilitates and streamlines the management of the dependency records," he explained.
