The Ministry of Agriculture and Water, through the Directorate General of Irrigation and Rural Development, the City of Abarán granted during 2013 a total of five grants from the Community Initiatives Leader for a total amount of 66,000 euros.
These funds have been allocated to the development of different projects aimed at the conservation and upgrading of the rural heritage and the provision of basic services for the economy and the population of the area.
Specifically, allowed to carry out the refurbishment of two youth spaces in the districts of Hoya del Campo and San Jose Artesano, the adequacy of the chapel as a point of reading, equipment playground of Ferris Wheels and tourist signs Township .
These actions are part of the Rural Development of the Region of Murcia 2007-2013.
The Director General of Irrigation and Rural Development, Julio Bernal, stressed the importance of these initiatives, "which give the rural population of services to help alleviate the territorial differentiation between urban and rural areas and to encourage their development."

The aid has been managed by the Local Action Group Association for Integrated Rural Development of the Municipalities of the Vega del Segura.
