ABARE PAGES RECEIVES 1,218 digitized images of the Municipal Archives CRIMSON THANKS TO PROJECT PRESENTED YESTERDAY IN THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF MURCIA (09/04/2008)

Thanks to Crimson has more than 378,000 images digitized public records of the Region of Murcia are available to users in www.regmurcia.com / crimson

Yesterday was presented the Project Crimson in the Archaeological Museum of Murcia which showed the importance of new technologies for the conservation of historical heritage.

Through this project, which has worked Abarán City Council, the municipality receives around 1,218 pages scanned from the municipal archives.

Crimson Project was founded in October 2005 with the aim of achieving the digitization, cataloging and dissemination of the historical archives of the Region of Murcia.

The scale of the project has made great effort and collaboration between institutions that provide sponsorship, knowledge, technology and financing.

A total of 24 institutions have participated in Crimson.

The project, given its size, has been developed in three phases.

The first has been digitized and cataloged the documents of medieval archives are kept in public archives of the Region of Murcia.

The digitized period ranging from 1245 (when the first document preserved) to 1504 (year of the death of Queen Isabella the Catholic).

This first phase involved the digitization of 70,000 images.

The second and third phase has to catalog and digitize all records chapter until the seventeenth century kept on the public record of the Region of Murcia.

During these two phases have been digitized more than 300,000 images that represent added to the previous 378.

585 images.

This will have used modern scanning techniques that can provide a true copy of each document, helping to preserve and prevent deterioration.

With further processing of the images to optimize visualization of documents such as removing blemishes, or virtually rebuild damaged areas of the original documents.

All municipal archives have received two digital copies of the files to facilitate local consultation without handling the original.

Each scanned document has been carefully cataloged describing his condition, contains information and preparing a full record of it.

Through these files have easy Internet access through the portal www.regmurcia.com / crimson, the Internet portal of the Region of Murcia.

From there you can view all files with powerful search engines to locate information of each document and view its content.

This will facilitate, as project managers, the work of researchers.
