The Community offers over 80 places for elderly and dependent on the new Residence and Day Centre Abarán (08/09/2009)

Currently more than 5,000 Murcia benefit of places of residence, day care centers, occupational centers and early intervention funded by the Community.

The regional government president, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, opened today in Abarán several facilities to improve comprehensive care of the elderly, women and youth in the municipality, including a new Residence and Day Centre will offer more than 80 seats to elderly and dependent.

The House and Day Care Centre 'Nicolás Gómez Tornero "has a total of 40 spaces for residents, of which 24 are subsidized by the Community, and another 59 for Day Centre The Centre offers permanent housing and comprehensive care for older that his health problems, family, social or economic, as well as limitations of personal autonomy can not be cared for in their own homes.

Residents come from the old nursing home in the Foundation 'Santa Teresa', which has held several agreements with the Community.

The new building offers comprehensive care for elderly people with health care, social, and occupational rehabilitation and the opportunity to participate in socio-cultural activities and recreation.

It counts with different departments of nursing station, kitchen, dining room, living rooms, recovery rooms and a total of 17 double rooms and 6 singles.

That building is also located Day Care Center, which offers specialized care for 59 people with some degree of dependency, therapeutic and cultural needs, to promote personal autonomy.

The new Day Care Centre will have the resources needed to meet these basic personal needs and also the social health, and is offered as an alternative to residential accommodation in order to ease the burden of dependency for the family unit.

Valcarcel said that "care for the elderly and disabled is a primary objective of this Government, not only from the provision of such services and infrastructure, but also to empower staff and to devise actions to improve the quality of life of these people and their families. "
