Inversion of four million euros for water supply and sanitation (22/02/2010)

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, and Abarán Mayor, Antonio Eugenio Gómez, inaugurated this morning the new collectors of waste water disposal and visited the construction of the new network of water supply in the field of Abarán.

The Community has invested four billion euros in water supply systems and sanitation districts of San José Artesano, Hoya del Campo, La Asomada, Sale of Aurora and Venta del Moro, in the upper Abarán field.

The sanitation system consists of a set of 9 kilometers of pipeline that will enable the collection, conveyance and treatment of wastewater from these villages.

Abarán Mayor said, "This is a work that will impact future benefit of abaraneros the next 25 years."

"Today we have to be happy and very pleased that we opened an infrastructure that was essential to urban and industrial development of our people, an infrastructure that collects all the waste from Sale of Aurora, a project funded by the Community and European funds whose result is the joint work of this team of government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Water to thank him for his tremendous effort, "said Gomez.

The Minister of Agriculture and Water said, "With these works not only avoids spills and environmental damage in the wadis of the Moro and Molax, but also the reuse of water once treated to irrigate the area."

"This work is healthy the entire field of Abarán and water will be purified and made available to irrigators," said Cerda.

Sanitation works, which have invested two million euros have been financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union by 80 percent and the remainder is capital of the Autonomous Community.

Cerda said that "given the structural water shortages faced by the Region of Murcia have to do his best to make the most of every drop of waste water, purify it and reuse in agriculture."

The head of water indicated that the actions that the regional government is making in cleaning "legitimate to ask us to meet our water needs and claim the transfers as a solution to water deficit."

The counselor also recalled that the Segura River "is currently the least polluted of all peninsular rivers," adding that "this achievement in its fullest extent has been achieved through the actions of the General Plan of cleansing and purifying of the Community" which have invested over 500 million euros.

The Region of Murcia reuses 100 hectometres of water per year and is the only basin that retrieves all of its waters.

On the other hand, the owner of Agriculture and Water and the mayor visited the works and started the network of supply and drinking water systems to the villages of Abarán from the new reservoir has been built.
